SWINDON OPEN STUDIOS 2017

We are thrilled to again be part of the Swindon Open Studios this year and will have pottery handbuilding and throwing taster sessions, arts and crafts and other activities taking place throughout the two weekends of Swindon Open Studios, ie 9th and 10th September 2017 plus 16th and 17th September 2017. We will also be open on Tuesday 12th, Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th September. You are more than welcome to join us either for the activities on offer or simply to browse some of the fantastic artwork being exhibited.

Featured artists for 2017 are:

Philip Robinson

We are really pleased to welcome Landscape & Abstract Artist, Philip Robinson who will be exhibiting his work at Eastcott Studios as part of Swindon Open Studios, September 2017.

Maria Thatcher

Maria's work is quirky, vibrant, colourful and full of emotion. She uses mainly gouache and coloured pencils often embellishing her work with 3D effects which give a great sense of real time to the subject.

Maria also makes hand made jewellery.

A sample of Maria's work can currently be seen in a mini exhibition in the main hall at Eastcott Studios and many of the works can be purchased by contacting her direct.

Mary THorne

Mary enjoys making ceramics which reflect and are shaped by the contours and seasons of the Wiltshire countryside. A recurring motif in her work is based on the characteristic clumps of trees on the hill tops and along the Ridgeway. Her work is made on the potters wheel and includes a range of domestic ware including mugs, bowls and teapots with the landscape motif picked out in wax resist. She also likes the combination of wood and ceramic, incorporating the grain of the wood into unique landscapes to hang on the wall.

Mary exhibits her work with the Wagon Yard Artists in Marlborough but visits Eastcott Studios on Mondays and Sundays to give throwing lessons by appointment. If you would like to book a session with Mary, please complete a booking form stating which day you prefer and someone will contact you with more information. Mary also accepts commissions.

Claire Cushnahan

Claire studied at Sir John Cass School of Art, London, United Kingdom and currently teaches arts and crafts in local schools and colleges.

Claire offers a 6 week ceramics course on Monday evenings between 6.30 and 8.30pm at Eastcott Studios. Her classes are relaxed and informal but cover all the basic introductory techniques that you will need to get started working with clay. Claire charges £10 per session but if you book for a term block you get one week free!

JJ Stellitano

We are really pleased that up and coming artist JJ Stellitano will be exhibiting at Eastcott Studios during the Swindon Open Studios Week in September 2017. JJ himself will be at the studios in person on 16 & 17th September.

Precious metals, resin, organic materials and merino wool are used to create pieces of jewellery inspired by the natural environment. I reflect on the organic forms, colours and textures I come across whilst traveling or gardening to inspire my work. You will be able to see resin and semi-precious stone brooches with layered gold leaf and pearl: delicate geometric earrings and sea pebble necklaces.
Visitors will see an ensemble of artistic photographic images.

Franc Murphy
'Underscape' Medium: Oil on canvas
